Doug MacDonald CPA joined the firm in 2009. He grew up in Missoula and received a degree in accounting from the University of Montana in 1979. From 1983 through 2008, Doug was a partner at Rutherford, MacDonald & Olson, PC. At BDM, his practice includes business and personal tax services, along with financial statement preparation and consulting. Doug enjoys snowboarding, paddle boarding, playing soccer and tennis. He also loves hiking in the mountains with his wife and 2 big Akitas.
Mary Harris CPA joined the firm in 2006. She was born and raised on a ranch near Valier, Montana. She received her BS in accounting from Montana State University in 1990 and has worked in public accounting since then. Her practice consists of individual and business income tax and financial statement preparation, consulting, and estate and trust compliance. She has been a certified QuickBooks Professional Advisor since 1999. Mary loves spending time with her husband and four children. She is currently a board member on a number of local not-for-profit organizations.
Karen Neel CPA joined the firm in 1995. She was raised on Long Island, NY and in the Adirondack Mountains. Karen received a BS in Forest Biology from SUNY Syracuse in 1978 and a Masters in Accountancy from the University of Montana in 1994. Between those two degrees she worked on Forest Service seasonal field crews as well as desk jobs at St. Patrick Hospital and Food Services of America. She stills gets outdoors as much as possible – biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing, gardening and as a volunteer on a fire lookout. She is expanding her craftiness by learning to quilt. She currently serves on the board of Living Arts of Montana with past service for Garden City Harvest and Watson Children’s Shelter. Karen’s practice at BDM includes tax services for individuals, partnerships, corporations and not-for-profits entities as well as business and QuickBooks consulting.
Pat Boyle, CPA, received his Masters of Accountancy from the University of Montana in 2005, joined BDM in 2007 and became partner in 2013. At BDM, his practice focuses on business and personal income taxes, financial statement compilation, and assistance with complex accounting transactions. Before joining BDM, he worked with Moss Adams in Portland, OR, where he gained industry expertise in construction, manufacturing and banking. Pat has served on the boards of the Missoula Food Bank, Home ReSource, and Habitat for Humanity of Missoula. He is currently on the Missoula Airport Board. When not busy working, Pat spends his time with his wife, Molly, and daughters, Nora & Sophie, cheering on the Griz and enjoying Missoula’s local breweries.
Jaime Ward, CPA, was raised in the Hudson River Valley of New York and moved to Missoula to attend the University of Montana, where she completed her Master’s in Accountancy in 1998. After a year hiatus in Portland, Oregon, where she wore out three umbrellas while working at Deloitte & Touche LLP, she returned to Missoula, eventually joining BDM in 2006. Her practice focuses on business and personal income taxes, non-profit services, employee benefit plan audits, and financial statement preparation. She is also active in the community, having served on a number of Boards over the years. When out of the office, she spends as much time outdoors as possible with her husband and twin boys.
Marie Hebnes CPA sadly passed away in September 2020 after a courageous fight against cancer. Marie joined the firm in 1980, became a partner in 2002 and will always have a lasting impact at BDM. Marie was born in eastern Montana and raised in western Montana. She studied at UM and graduated with her BS in accounting in 1989 while working at BDM. Marie was closely involved in the community, serving as treasurer of the Missoula Public Library Foundation and on the board of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, as well as faithfully cheering on all manner of Griz sports no matter the time of year. She was a teacher, a mentor and an advisor to those who worked with her, and a loyal friend to all who knew her and will always be missed.
Missoula-native Christina Twohig, CPA, is constantly on the move. A world traveler, with 27 countries under her belt, she graduated with a Masters in Accountancy from the University of Montana in 2001. After working at Moss Adams in Oregon she moved back to Missoula and joined BDM. As a partner at BDM, Christina’s practice focuses on estate planning, trusts, and estate compliance, as well as business and personal income taxes, financial statement preparation, and consulting. She currently serves as treasurer of the Headwaters Foundation and as a board of director for TrailWest Bank and Historical Research Associates. In her off-time, she daydreams about her next vacation with her husband while shuttling their son to his sports practices and going hiking with her dogs.
While Rena Hansen, CPA, started her tenure with the firm as a “tax season copy girl” in 1991, by 1997 she completed her BS in accounting and, within 5 years, had become partner. As a partner at BDM, her practice focuses on business and individual tax preparation, small business setup and consulting, and financial statement preparation. She is also an active community member, having been involved with HomeWord, Fort Courage Childcare, the Missoula Food Bank, Child Care Resources, Leadership Missoula, Friends of the Civic Stadium, and Loyola Sacred Heart Foundation. Outside of work, Rena’s Darby, Montana roots and competitive spirit make her an avid sports fan (go Griz). But she is also a dedicated mother who enjoys skiing, fishing, and hiking, especially when accompanied by her husband, Scott, and children, Connor and Hanna.
John T. Boyle CPA joined the firm in 1982 and has been a partner since 1984. John is a native of Butte, but grew up in Great Falls and graduated from UM in 1976 with a BS in finance. He worked in banking for several years before returning to UM to obtain an accounting degree in 1981. John has been active in various community endeavors, and currently serves on the Historical Research Associates board. John is a sporting enthusiast, and can often be found on a playing field or golf course. In between sports, his practice emphasizes tax preparation, litigation support, and estate planning.
